Class Today 9-5-08
This week we have begun our exploration of plots via plot maps. We have added several new terms to our literary vocabulary. We have practiced our skills in summarizing the plot of a short story. We have almost concluded our study of Edgar Alan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado." We have practiced applying our knowledge of literary devices, such as irony, theme, and mood, in order to analyze a short story. We have even tried our hand at writing and PROVING a guilty/innocent verdict for Montresor, a character in "The Cask of Amontillado."
Tomorrow we will be reviewing "The Cask of Amontillado" and our literary vocabulary terms for a test on MONDAY. We will also be continuing our look at narrative writing as we analyze the 6 basic elements of a name piece and begin brainstorming ways to add descriptive elements (such as similes and metaphors) to our own writing.
